Special Lecture at the College of Nursing: Global Nursing Workforce Trends and New Perspectives in International Exchange
To broaden the international perspectives of faculty members and students and strengthen academic exchange, the College of Nursing hosted a special lecture on June 4, 2026. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, inviting faculty and students from partner institutions involved in recent exchanges to participate online, thereby fostering cross-national academic dialogue and experience sharing. The College was honored to welcome Professor Ferry Efendi, one of the world’s top nursing scholars and recognized among the Top 2% of World Scientists in the nursing field (2022–2025), as the distinguished speaker. Professor Ferry Efendi currently is a professor at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia, and will be appointed as an Adjunct Visiting Professor at the College of Nursing, KMU starting from the first semester of Academic Year 115, further strengthening academic collaboration and talent exchange between the two institutions.
The lecture, entitled “Global Nursing Workforce, Local Research: Making Our Stories Matter Internationally,” focused on global nursing workforce trends and international mobility issues. Professor Ferry Efendi highlighted the projected global nursing shortage by 2030 and emphasized Indonesia’s potential to become a major provider of nursing professionals to the international workforce. He further explored the challenges nurses encounter during the pre-migration, migration, and post-migration phases, including language proficiency, cultural adaptation, professional development, and psychological support. The lecture underscored the importance of education, policy support, and the concept of “brain circulation,” emphasizing how overseas nurses can contribute back to their home countries through professional expertise, experience sharing, and international networks.
During the discussion session, faculty members and students engaged in meaningful exchanges on topics such as cross-border nursing workforce mobility in Vietnam, Indonesia, and ASEAN countries, language proficiency requirements for overseas employment, the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA), and regional nursing workforce demands. The event highlighted emerging opportunities for nursing education, workforce development, and international collaboration in an increasingly globalized healthcare environment.

College of Nursing Special Lecture Highlights International Collaboration at Universitas Airlangga- November 04, 2025
On November 4, 2025, the College of Nursing held a special lecture featuring Dr. Ira Suarilah, a distinguished alumna of the PhD Program and an esteemed international scholar. Dr. Suarilah currently serves as a lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in Indonesia. The event, which was attended by faculty members and students, focused on her presentation titled “Introduction to Universitas Airlangga and Its International Collaboration Experiences.”
During the lecture, Dr. Suarilah discussed the development, academic characteristics, and internationalization strategies of Universitas Airlangga and shared the university’s accomplishments in advancing international collaboration within the field of global higher education.
The primary purpose of this special lecture was to enhance the attendees' understanding of Universitas Airlangga and to foster opportunities for academic research, faculty and student exchanges, and international education development.
Systematic Review &Meta-Analysis: Methods and Team Collaboration- October 14, 2025
The College of Nursing held an International Scholar Special Lecture (online) on October 14, 2025, featuring Dr. Ita Daryanti Saragih as the keynote speaker.
Dr. Saragih, a distinguished alumna of both the Master’s and Ph.D. programs in Nursing, is currently a Postdoctoral Scholar at The Pennsylvania State University, USA. In 2025, she was recognized among the World’s Top 2% Scientists.
The lecture, titled “Systematic Review & Meta-Analysis: Methods and Team Collaboration,” attracted over 100 participants, including faculty members and graduate students from both KMU and international partner schools in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. The feedback from participants was enthusiastic and highlighted the informative nature of the session.
During her presentation, Dr. Saragih shared her in-depth expertise and experiences regarding conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses, as well as practical strategies for international research collaboration. Her insights helped participants strengthen their research design, scholarly writing skills, and teamwork effectiveness.
State of the School Research Programs, Cizik School of Nursing at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) - September 30, 2025
On September 30, 2025, the College of Nursing hosted a lecture titled “State of the School Research Programs, Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston,” delivered by Dr. Erica Yu, RN, PhD, ANP, FNAP, an alumna and visiting associate professor at KMU.
Dr. Yu, the Associate Dean at the Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, provided key updates on nursing research programs, highlighting strategies, resources, and the landscape of postdoctoral training. Additionally, she met with KMU faculty to discuss research collaborations and student placement research opportunities, all aimed at strengthening international partnerships.

2024.11.11 Dr. Eun-Ok Im, Dean and Professor of the School of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin, USA, was invited to deliver a guest lecture titled “How to Become a Successful Nursing Leader in a Changing Environment.” In her lecture, Dr. Im discussed the various characteristics and managerial competencies that define successful leaders in both Asian and Western cultures. She also drew on her own experiences to encourage the audience to consider how nursing leaders can adopt the most effective approaches to manage organizational changes in a dynamic environment.

College of nursing planned a series of international workshops regarding research writing and publication via webinar. Associate professor Shu-Fen Wung from the University of Arizona, USA was invited as the main speaker. The first workshop “Appraisal of Research Evidence” was conducted on April 13 and the second one “Selection of the Appropriate Scientific Journals” on June 18, 2021.
