Deepening a 17-Year Bond to Pioneer a New Era in International Nursing
To further expand its international academic footprint and elevate the quality of research collaboration, the
College of Nursing at Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) held the Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) Renewal Signing Ceremony and Research Exchange Meeting on March 17, 2026. This event not
only reaffirmed a strategic partnership with the world-renowned School of Nursing at The University of
Hong Kong (HKU) but also celebrated 17 fruitful years of collaboration since the first MOU was signed in
2009, marking a significant milestone in nursing education and research.
A Profound Foundation Spanning 17 Years
The event took place at the KMU College of Nursing, where faculty from both institutions gathered to
witness this long-standing academic friendship. The ceremony commenced at 10:00 AM with warm
welcoming remarks by Distinguished Professor Fan-Hao Chou, Senior Vice President of KMU, and
Distinguished Professor Ching-Min Chen, Dean of the College of Nursing, alongside their faculty
members. Following this, Professor Chia-Chin Lin, Director of the School of Nursing at HKU, introduced
her delegation, including Professor Doris Sau Fung Yu, Chair of Research at the School of Nursing;
Associate Professor Edmond Pui Hang Choi, Chair of the Teaching & Learning Committee and Director of
the Bachelor of Nursing Programme and Advanced Leadership Track; Assistant Registrar Ms. Man-Wah
Yip; and Manager Ms. Maria Cheung. The vibrant interactions during the event underscored a high level of
consensus regarding future cooperation.
Strategic Alignment for Global Health
During the academic exchange session, Assistant Professor Shih-Chun Lin, Deputy Director of the
Research Development and Global Affairs Division at KMU College of Nursing, presented an overview of
the College’s development, research strengths, and future priorities. The School of Nursing at HKU also
shared its achievements in managing eight nursing degree programs, cultivating international talent,
community service, and partnerships with alliance universities. Both parties engaged in in-depth
discussions on key areas and strategies for future cooperation.
Signing the Renewal: A New Chapter of Collaboration
In a solemn ceremony, the representatives of both colleges officially renewed the MOU. This agreement
not only consolidates the solid foundation established since 2009 but also targets substantive cooperation in
geriatric care, global health issues, and high-level nursing talent development. Following the ceremony, the
two institutions exchanged commemorative gifts and took group photographs, bringing this historic
meeting to a perfect conclusion.
This renewal symbolizes a transition for KMU and HKU from long-term partners to a "value-creating"
deep collaboration. Moving forward, both institutions will leverage resource sharing and transnational
research to jointly address global healthcare challenges, injecting more powerful innovative momentum
into the international nursing community.
